Isabelle Abramson Lighting

Awhile ago I did a post on Isabelle Abramson, the ceramic artist. The bowls she makes are just so beautiful! Well, she has now started doing lighting, and I think that these pieces are equally beautiful.

(I'll let you find out the prices on your own, and find out why neither of us will be hanging these in our house any time soon!) Nonetheless, I think they are gorgeous!

Yevgenia {ceramic artist}

I present this week's artist to you with a fresh batch of eye candy. The artist is Russian-born, New York-residing Yevgenia, and she sells hand-painted ceramic items for the home and kitchen.

As often is the case, her items are a bit beyond my budget, but somehow I think coffee might taste better coming from one of her beautifully painted travel mugs, and I think the noodle bowls with the little holes for the chopsticks to rest in so they don't go rolling away are so perfect. All of these designs remind me of sunny spring days!

What do you think? Wouldn't the little sauce bottle look darling sitting on a sunny kitchen windowsill? Visit the store here.

Matte Stephens

This week's artist is Matte Stephens from Portland, Oregon. I have enjoyed his art for some time now, and I'm hoping that some of you will enjoy it too. Perhaps you have even already heard of him!

Many of his prints charmingly depict particular cities, like San Francisco, New York, or Hamburg.

Some depict people and relationships:

Family Vacation

Meeting to Feed the Birds

And some of Matte Stephens' prints are just made by the title, such as the following:

Edwin and Rosemary upon arriving at Yosemite for their honeymoon
were lucky enough to spot a rare green friendly soft tooth bear, 1927.

What do you think of Matte Stephens?
Check out his blog here, and his shop here!
Enjoy!

green really does love yellow

Since my blog is titled "Green Loves Yellow" (and those are my two favorite colors... no deep symbolism involved, just two lovely colors that look lovely together), when I found this "Simply Color" post on Design Sponge, I had to repost it!

I  ♥ green and yellow!

Paper Noodle

Little Red Riding Hood

Today's post features the art work of Cheong-ah Hwang of Paper Noodle. She was raised in Korea by parents who owned a printing business, so she was surrounded by all kinds of paper at an early age. Cheong-ah Hwang began creating paper sculptures midway through art school in the early 2000's.

Many of the items in her online shop are photos taken of her paper sculptures, so they are quite affordable. The original sculptures, however, are quite expensive, but for a good reason. I can't imagine the amount of time that goes into each sculpture! In fact, on her Flickr site, she has posted a "making of" series that gives a bit of insight as to the intricate detail of each part of a sculpture. Here's one of the images she posted:

Can you imagine!

And here's the final product of the above series:

Alice Meets Caterpillar

Here's an original sculpture. The detail in the feathers is amazing!

Check out her Etsy shop, her personal site, or her Flickr stream for more images of this amazing art form!

I like this

I like this print.

It is sweet, simple, calm, and cheerful. It makes me think of a birthday or a celebration with best friends, but not many more. A very nice kind of celebration, if you ask me!

Do you like quiet parties or loud parties? Lots of energy or low-key?

Happy New Year!

2011 Calendars, Part 4 {photography}

Merry Christmas Eve!

Today I have a handful of photography calendars for you.

I have to say that I gravitate more towards the illustrated and letterpress calendars, but I do enjoy and appreciate these photography selections.

These calendars are definitely full of images to frame and hang when the year is over... or when each month is over, if you can't wait til next January!

Enjoy!

2011 Calendars, Part 3 {poster calendars}

Today's round of calendars features a more unique style: the poster calendar. This type is becoming more and more popular as artists of all kinds create their version of the poster calendar. In fact, I had over twenty items to share with you, but I whittled it down to twelve.

We'll start things off with a fantastically lovely calendar from The Wild Unknown. Each year, The Wild Unknown releases a poster calendar (and other calendars) illustrated by the talented Kim Krans. The prints are limited editions of 100, and they typically sell out rather quickly. I can see why they do.

Other artists and styles follow...

1. 2011 Wall Calendar, from Michelle Brusegaard
2. 2011 Letterpress Calendar Flower Garden, from 1canoe2
3. 2011 Dahlia Wall Calendar, from Nella Designs
4. Such a Perfect Day 2011 Silkscreen Calendar, from Hero Design Studio
5. 2011 Poster Calendar, Home Sweet Home, from Michelle Smith
6. Calendar for 2011- Coffee and Pancakes, from Stephanie Levy
7. 2011 Calendar Poster, from Never Sleeping
8. 2011 Hand-Printed Calendar, from Nate Duvall
9. Sewing Notions-- 2011 Screenprinted Calendar, from Orange Twist
10. 2011 Calendar Tea Towel, from Claudia Pearson

Don't you think the Coffee and Pancakes print would look darling hanging in the kitchen? I would also love to hang the Sewing Notions print in my imaginary craft room above my imaginary sewing table. I don't think there is a rule against hanging more than one calendar per home, is there?

More to come in part 4...
